Conquering Loneliness by Bringing People Together one Table at a Time!
Here are some comments from those who have already joined their local Talkin' Table.
THE TABLE WHERE HOPE SAT DOWN
by Siraz
from Talkin' Tables at The Living Room at 1Point Centre Bolton
I came in quiet, a shadow of myself----
lost in the noise of thoughts I couldn't shelve.
Emotional tides pulled me under each day,
grief and confusion in shades of muted grey.
Empty chairs mirrored the hollow in my chest,
where words once lived, but silence took the rest.
But then---
a voice, a nod, a shared cup of tea,
a slice of exceedingly delicious cake from Ash,
a stranger's story that sounded like me,
a hug from Howard that felt like a lighthouse beam through me.
In Drissia, where the sun leans low,
and lanterns bloom with a gentle glow,
the gates swing wide with arms outstretched---
each stranger greeted, each worry fetched.
Joan with a heart so wide,
Tessa, Rona by our side,
Lucy, Ruby, Charlotte too---
kindness shines in all you do.
Elizabeth the CEO who leads the way--
you made this magic bloom each day.
With deepest thanks, we raise our voice:
you made our community rejoice.
Talkin' Tables---
where broken doesn't mean done
where healing begins with just one "someone"
Now hope sits beside me, not loud, but sincere---
in laughter, in listening, in simply being here.
I'm not fixed, not finished,
but I'm no longer alone.
This table is sturdy
and it feels like home.
"This poem is called "The Table where Hope Sat Down." It's a reflection of what Talkin' Tables has meant to me and a thank-you to the people who have made it feel like home"

After losing my husband and moving to
a new area, I felt depressed and lonely.
Talkin' Tables has changed all that and I now have amazing friends and go out and do things.
We are there for each other at any time.
It's brilliant!
After retiring and then having a serious
illness, my confidence was shattered.
I felt like I didn't matter anymore. Joining Talkin' Tables has given me some fabulous new friends. I now go on trips shopping, cinema lunch etc. It has been a lifeline for me and everyone else who has joined. What a marvellous idea this is.
I knew no one here and thought
my life here was going to be lonely then I joined Talkin' Tables and it certainly turned my life around. I have met absolutely lovely ladies and gents. My life is far from lonely and I have made friends with some amazing people.

At Talkin’ Tables, we work with awesome local businesses to create facilitated inclusive spaces that allow people to meet & connect with others in their community.
How Talkin' Tables Works
Each of the businesses we partner with hosts their Talkin’ Table for one hour at a time. The tables are free for anyone to join, and a table leader is present for the hour to welcome people to the table and act as a point of contact for the charity.
The “Talkin’ Tables” are the ones marked with the small sign inviting you to sit and join in.
This is a safe, inclusive space so pull up a chair and enjoy the company of others.
Remember to always be kind and respectful
